Happy Merdeka Day!

flag257 years ago, on 31 August 1957, the Federation of Malaya gained independence from British colonial rule. Since then, Hari Merdeka (Independence Day) has been a national holiday to commemorate this important event. Every year, the highlight of the celebrations is a parade on Kuala Lumpur’s Merdeka Square that is attended by H.M. the King and other dignitaries.

Everybody who is familiar with Malaysia knows that since the end of colonial rule the country has seen impressive development and change. While progress and urbanisation have influenced the lifestyle of many people, Malaysia has managed to preserve its unique, multi-cultural heritage. It is this heritage which – apart from Malaysia’s beautiful nature – makes the country such a rewarding travel destination for people from all over the world. Last year alone, more than 25 million tourists spent their holidays here. We guess this is no coincidence. When we talk to our guests about their Malaysia experience, we get a lot of positive feedback reaching from the amazing variety of food to the great weather and the beautiful nature. But one thing always stands out: it is the genuine friendliness and hospitality that visitors experience wherever they go.

At Orange Pekoe it is our goal that our guests experience exactly that – the best of Malaysian hospitality. We believe that this does not require a 5-star environment (we are just a budget guesthouse) but rather a team of people who really care and who do their best to make sure that you have a great time during your stay in Malaysia. Having said this, we wish all Malaysians Selamat Hari Merdeka!
